Young cat keeps bothering new senior dog

I just brought home a 7yr old female dog named Strawberry from the shelter a few days ago. My cat Sampson is only a few months old and very hyper/nosey. Neither have any problems per say with the other species but Sampson keeps bothering Strawberry by trying to get her food or treats. Strawberry growls for a good second but Sampson doesn't back off. The dog has lunged twice and I've had to break up a fight It doesn't help that Strawberry was spayed before coming home and she's in pain.

What I've been doing is separating them during the day while I'm at work and then switching the rooms at night while I sleep then letting them mingle in the afternoons. Is there anything else someone could recommend? It's mostly the cat demanding he get her food/treats and the dog growling when he comes too close.
