Hi! As I moved out because of college, my parents are taking care of the dog, a 3 year-old mixed labrador. I've been accompanying it and my parents like the dog very much. They work, but have the time to walk him in the morning and take a long walk in the evening, letting him roam for a bit in the afternoon or at night. We do have a yard, but my house is open all around and he leaves sometimes so we can't keep him outside all the time, so we keep him in a kennel. I come home every two weeks and in those weekends I train him two times per day, and try to play and groom him. I've spent quite some time thinking and talking to a trainer and I think this is the best we can give him and that he's happy.
Yesterday I came across this 2 articles which say it is cruel to crate a dog for more than eight hours, which has left me with doubts. Maybe it's different because it's a 4 by 4 kennel and not a crate, but I don't know? Do you guys think what we're doing is not enough and there's something more I should be doing? My dog is pretty calm on the kennel, only getting more excited when we're about to go on a walk, but do you think maybe I should also give him some crate training or something like that even though he's already comfortable and used to it (I've had some training with him, but never really crate training)? Thanks for reading, I appreciate it
