He’s 2 1/2 years old and this behaviour started probably around a year ago. I play with him regularly with a laser pointer and a string toy for him to run after and catch. He’s a very active cat and needs attention basically constantly. In the past year he’s had this weird behaviour where his pupils get really dilated, he lets out a long loud scream then either swats at me or attacks my ankle with his mouth and claws. It comes at seemingly random times, I’ll have been petting him and he seems over it so I stop then he randomly attacks, I’ll have just played with him and he doesn’t want to anymore then minutes later he attacks, I’ll just be sitting on the couch and he’ll randomly attack.
It’s really getting in the way of my work because I work from home almost always on my phone and I feel like I have to constantly be watching over him or have my guard up because he might attack me and it really hurts when he does. I’ve gotten in the habit of putting him in my bedroom for some time while I get some work done but I feel bad isolating him like that. I really don’t know what to do but I can’t seem to get any work done unless he’s sleeping which is at random times that I can’t plan around.
Is this an age thing that he will get over or has he built a behaviour that I am egging on? I don’t know what to do anymore, if anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it!
