Can a vet be wrong about fleas?

Hi all,

Our vet told us today that he saw a flea on our (indoor only) kitten and gave us 2 dozes of Revolution spread over 2 months, with the instructions to vacuum our floors and furniture 3-4 times weekly over the next 2 months and to wash all of our kitten’s bedding, blankets etc on medium/high heat. We got pretty freaked out, applied the topical treatment between his shoulders and vacuumed the apartment. We bough a flea comb and combed him through to find any evidence of fleas, like larvae or flea dirt. Didn’t find anything. We’ll obviously continue with vet’s recommendations but I was just wondering if there’s a chance he could be wrong? Or are evidence of fleas indeed so difficult to find? Our kitten scratches behind his left ear occasionally, but we always though it was some strange kitty behavior. Sometimes he also shakes out his head, and we specifically combed though it and found nothing.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
