I have two 11 month old cats, one male one female. The female has calmed down and is pretty well behaved but it feels like the male is just getting worse. I sleep with my bedroom door open so they can go play with their toys in the living room whenever they want, but instead he just walks around my room and fucks with everything, mostly batting at cords that I’m unable to move. Most nights I kick him out before I’m even fully asleep because I can’t fall asleep with him doing that. When I do kick him out he scratches the carpet outside my door which 1, keeps me up and 2, cannot happen because I rent this apartment, so I have to open the door again. He wakes me up at least once every night. They both got a lot better with letting me sleep through the night a few months ago, but then he got worse again. It’s tough because he’s not doing anything to me, just doing things in my room that wake me up. Yesterday I woke up at 6am to him and my alarm clock falling to the ground after he ripped the cord out of the wall. I even tried to hide some of the cords behind my full sized mirror in the corner and shoved a blanket in the side so he can’t get back there, but he’s determined to keep doing it. Now he digs at the mirror and puts just his arm back there to bat the cords. I’ll admit I don’t get to play with them too much since I’m studying for an important exam right now on top of working full time, but they can play with each other and have plenty of toys. Even when I do play with them before bed it doesn’t seem to help. I have a feeling that since I got them while I was fully working from home, he likes being in the same room as me a bit too much, hence the constantly being annoying in my bedroom while I’m doing things. He does the same thing while I’m trying to study and work and I just cannot handle it, I’ve had multiple anxiety attacks because of it. I feel like I haven’t had peace in months. I don’t know how I’m supposed to adequately study when I’m exhausted and can’t get through a practice test without having to pause and stop him from doing something. How do I make him calm down?? He’s such a sweet cat otherwise so I feel bad kicking him out every night. My exam is in less than two weeks and I just need some peace and sleep.
