My 1 yr old pup recently had surgery. When I went to go pick him up, the veterinarian staff all kept telling me I was in for a handful. When they brought him out, he had his collar, his pinch collar, a cone on (due to his surgery) and she had his leash wrapped around his body. She explained to me she had to do it this way because he's so much to handle... If she had used his pinch properly, she wouldn't have needed to wrap the leash around him (mind you it wasn't even holding him back at all). He just wanted out of there, he didn't even greet me. Ran straight to the other door.
So I brought him home. I noticed the next day he has 2 blood shot eyes. Above and below his pupil on both eyes looked like puddles of blood. I thought it was just from the surgery or the drugs he got, as he was acting completely normal now, so I just left it. My boyfriend suggested I call the vet back and let them know so I did. I got a call this morning from the vet that the blood shot eyes could be a blood clot from surgery (which I highly doubt as its been a few days now since surgery and he's acting completely normal) or from excessive pulling on his neck area (from a collar, restraint, leash, etc). So they were basically pulling so hard on my 1 year old dogs neck that they blew at least 2 blood vessels in his eyes.
I understand he doesn't like the vet. Because he has had bad experiences when he was a puppy. But to pin him down or have him in a restraint so hard that he now has blown blood vessels in his eyes.... I am so amazed. The vet didn't even seem concerned that his staff did this. If he's that bad in there, why not let the owner come in and try to calm him down enough so you can put an iv in? It makes it so much easier for the staff and the poor puppy.
I cant imagine the amount of stress he was in during that entire day...
