My girlfriend and I adopted Griffin, an 8 year old rescue from a shelter (he was in the shelter his entire life 😩) in NYC around 2 months ago. Although he seems to have somewhat settled in he’s still very scared and will not let us pet him. We’ve managed to brush him a few times with the help of some treats as an exchange.
In terms of cuddles and pets it’s basically a no go. If we try to pet him he’ll either:
- Run away
- Hiss
- Claw my hands off and then hiss some more
He’s such a lovely cat and has probably had a rough life and we just want the best for him. We love him and we’re delighted to provide him a safe comfortable home.
Anything I’ve read on google is saying 1-2 weeks adjustment time which is way off where we’re at. If anyone has had a similar experience please share tips or advice to get our boy settled in.
Thanks in advance!
