Just to make things clear, i don’t hate cats or dogs nor i am against people having pets, also i am posting this on both subs.
My thoughts are: "As long as it doesn’t affect me, live and let live". I think there can be awsome cats and shitty cats, and the same stands for dogs.
So wanting to research a bit in pets culture and the opinion of people in the internet i’ve been pointed to these two subreddits, this is what i found.
I started with rDogsfree and found a list of news about dog attacks, experiences with dogs, people complaining of dogs shitting in their gardens, etc.
I found most arguments sound, but as expected from a subreddit made for people to complain about what they do not like, you can also find a lot of people just being bitter and hateful about it (not that i mind since it is the purpouse of the sub), but nothing too extreme.
Some of them just don’t like dogs, the only mentions of putting down dogs were when said dog is extremely dangerous and has attacked a person before. Not to mention that all the cases i’ve seen of "put that dog down" refer to a painless lethal injection.
Overall, i think its a decent sub with decent people.
I then followed up with rifuckinghatecats and oh boy i got a surprise.
The sub is structured the same way as the other minus the news articles of murders and attacks since, well, that doesn’t happen with cats or the damage isn’t as big.
I found people having bad experiences with a cat, other complaining about some shitty cat owners (wich i get).
But what shocked me was that the solutions for people to a cat shitting in their gardens were "kill the damn pest" or "trap the stinking demon and leave it on the highway 50 miles away".
The reaction of people here to a video of a cat biting the owner (clearly soft enough to not even scratch him) were "i would bash the little shit with a baseball bat" or "22cal solution to that" and lots of people even cheered on them. And this was not a unique situation, most of the posts have this type of comments from people who clearly have issues and i hope i don’t ever cross in my life in fear of getting my face blasted with a shotgun for, i dunno, coughing too loud. Like, calm down dude its just a fucking cat, not satan.
