Regularly visiting cat doesn’t like our new kitten

We moved house just over a month ago and there is a beautiful big ginger cat who lives at another house on our street but visits us most days. He comes in and will chill in our house all evening until we put him out when we go to bed. He’s really friendly and affectionate with us and we love having him visit.

A week ago we adopted a 12 week old kitten. She’s a ballsy little thing and very playful. The ginger cat seems to be afraid of her. She just wants to play with him but he hisses and growls at her and runs away. Yesterday she followed him (very closely supervised) and he lashed out with claws when she followed him to the door.

I’ve been looking for advice on google but it’s all geared towards two cats who live together. It’s a bit more difficult when he’s only here sometimes so there’s less time for us to slowly introduce them. I’m worried that he’ll end up hurting her.

Does anyone have any advice on this?
