Rehome my cat?

Warning: This post may have content that is upsetting for people with sensitive stomachs. TW: poop, animal distress

I am a huge animal lover. I have a dog that I adopted 4 years ago. He had parvo and I depleted my entire (minimal) savings of 7k to make sure he lived. A year ago, I decided to add a cat to our home. I looked at local shelters and found a good cat that matched what I wanted. What I didn't expect is that he also would have insane medical needs.

I have spent over $2000 in one year on this beautiful, loving cat. He has digestive issues and diarrhea since I adopted him. I immediately got him on a sensitive stomach diet and watched. No change. I took him to my vet for tests and treatment. We have tried 3 different diets and antibiotics and probiotics and so much medicine that was so hard to force on him... with literally no difference. And recently, he has stopped using the litter box. Now he is pooping on my carpets. Last night I spent 2.5 hours cleaning up cat shit on my floor because my roomba spread it all over my living room. #TIFU

I don't know what to do at this point. I love this cat a ton and I feel like I have exhausted options I can afford with my vet with NEGATIVE improvement. He is a very emotionally needy cat and I'd hate for him to go back to a shelter... but I'm not sure what to do. I have a decent job but I have some past issues I am paying for financially. I cannot afford to drop thousands of dollars more on my animal. And I feel awful about this.

Please help with any advise because I'd do anything to keep my kitter and help him feel okay.
