Hi, I'm looking to switch my 2 kitties from a dry cat food brand that uses lentils & peas to a brand that does not and uses grains (like brown rice, oats, barely). I'm doing this after educating myself that the whole "grain free" thing is just marketing and legumes aren't really any better than grains (and maybe worse-- they're linked to causing DCM in dogs from inhibiting taurine absorption!) That being said, low-grain would still be preferred as I know cats don't really need grains... but the kibble has to have some sort of carb to maintain its shape. Here's what I'm looking for:
- Low grain, high protein, relatively low carb (ideally around 35% protein or higher)
- No peas, lentils, or other legumes or grains like corn
- A brand that has multiple flavors (like chicken, salmon, duck, etc. so I can rotate)
- Not obscenely expensive, but I am willing to spend a little more
Please let me know if you have any recommendations/ testimonials to a food like this with your cat(s).
Thanks :)
