How to stop cat from trying to break in at night?

I have 2 cats. They are great during the day, but at night the youngest one turns into a demon cat... he just doesn't seem to know that we like to sleep past 5:00 AM.

We had a fix that worked pretty well where we would just lock them out of the bedroom when we sleep. That all changed about a week ago when the little genius a-hole figured out how to open doors.

The first night it scared the crap out of me. Imagine just waking up and seeing your bedroom door slowly open just a little bit at 3:00 AM.

After the initial shock wore off, I though "hey that's kind of cool, we have a pretty smart cat" and "I guess we'll just lock the bedroom door when we sleep from now on." I was so wrong...

Now it's like we live in a haunted house with the door handle rattling very loudly every night except it's not a demon or a ghost, It's a little jerk-off cat who is smart enough to know how to open doors, but not smart enough to know that a door is locked and can't be opened.

Does anyone else have this issue? I really want to be able to sleep in but after 6:00 AM. If you have had this issue I'm open to suggestions.

Note: we currently have a big window ac at max right next to our bed plus we turn the TV on loud enough to hear the TV over it. So the noises he makes are very loud.
