Think Someone I know stole a lost cat?

Looking for advice on how to handle a situation where I may think an acquaintance of mine took in a lost cat as their own.

I don’t want to get in the middle of it, but I’m worried that some old acquaintances of mine may have taken a cat off the street as their own.

I’ve managed to get in touch with the owner — how do I go about reuniting them when I know the people in possession of the cat think it’s theirs now?

I haven’t spoken to the people that “stole” the cat in awhile. I only have their Instagram handles and don’t want them to know Im ratting them out.

What do I tell the pet owner? Who do I get in touch with to help the owner get his cat back?
