My tabby male cat is 11 years old. I rescued him from a neighbor who threw him into the winter cold 10 years ago. From day one he was "problematic" but I loved him too much to ever give up on him. He is the healthiest little demon I've ever seen and has never had any medical issues to speak of. I have 3 litter boxes (two cat household), clean them regularly, and change out the litter weekly and the boxes monthly (I use disposable boxes). The litter has changed over the last 10 years but never made a difference.
My ex forced me to declaw him to keep him (I know, and I regret it) which happened 10 years ago. I am not sure if this has something to do with his behavioral issues because he's been declawed the entire time I've had him.
My husband and I moved into our house in November 2019. He takes to new environments fine and loves our house with all the windows/wild life in the backyard. It took a few months before I noticed him pee on the carpet, then I bent to smell and could tell it wasn't the first time. He pees along the edge of the wall where it meets the carpet on two levels, but never in the bed or bedroom despite sleeping with us every night (I have a mattress protector just in case from previous incidents).
Recently, I have been coming home from work to see poop on the carpet. He is still actively using all 3 litter boxes, plays with his sister all day while we're gone, and cuddles with us all night when we're home.
I treat the carpet with enzymatic cleaners (Nature's Miracle, Mypetpeed, etc) and nothing keeps him from re-peeing. It isn't marking, it's a full pee and cover as if it was a little box. I am at my wit's end and I do not know what else I can try (I scheduled a vet appointment to do another check but he's never had any reported health issues or concerns).
Does anyone have any success stories of healthy male cats that pee and poop outside the litter box that ever stopped? (I've read some older threads but nothing has ever come up that wasn't something I've tried, and I'm not sure if the added pooping is a sign of something else?)
