My bf and I have been doing long distance for years and he finally was able to move in with me this weekend. He brought his 3 year old basset hound. The dog is harmless but has whining issues and separation anxiety. He full on BARKS really loud when we leave and it’s been two days of us going to work and him barking up a storm. I recently bought my condo so I plan on staying here. I didn’t know his dog would be so loud. Apparently he didn’t think of this either. The neighbours are complaining and rightfully so, even on the floors below us. I feel terrible and hate being the loud inconsiderate person in a condo. We’ve discussed rehomjng the dog but obviously it’s an emotional issue since my bf loves this dog. I can’t help but to think it’s my bf’s problem for not thinking this through or training the dog to be quiet. We both work M-F 8-5 and come home during lunch to let the dog out, but as soon as we leave, the dog barks super loudly for a long time. The neighbours are pissed. What are the options? I don’t see what we can do besides giving him away. Vets are booked up for 2 weeks, the dog boarding won’t take him without recent vaccinations, what else is there to do? I offered my bf the option of him moving out with the dog but of course he wasn’t happy with that either. Feels like I’m in a no-win situation.
