Keeping cat in a rental with no pet policy

I apologize in advance for the longish post. I may be moving to a rental house that has a no pet policy. My cat is very intelligent & well behaved and will not pose any threat to the property, I am very clean and there are never any odors or hair to "give away" that I have him (everywhere I've lived has had a no pet policy)

but I have one problem. He loves watching birds at the window and basking in the sun. He also commonly sits in the window waiting for my boyfriend and I to come home from errands every day. The thing is the landlords own a business close by and I'm afraid he will be seen sitting in the window when we go out or when I'm just preoccupied and not keeping watch for him at the window. I don't want to take away the joy of watching birds from him because he really likes it. He recently discovered bird videos that I put on the TV but he always runs to the window to see where they went after a minute of watching the TV lol.

I've already thought about keeping him in another room with food, water, litterbox, just when we go out for short periods, so he's not seen. But I already feel bad about that 😅
