Two years ago, I adopted a 6-month-old cat and we have an amazing bond. He cuddles next to me in bed every night, sits in my lap while I work, and follows me around when I'm home. Honestly, he probably has attachment issues, but I love the attention. I adopted another 2-month-old cat (in part to keep him company since I leave for work most of the day), and they get along for the most part. I'll find them cuddling together on the couch when I come home, and they'll lick each other and playfully chase each other sometimes.
The new cat isn't as cuddly with me, but I thought maybe that's just his personality. However, I realized that lately whenever I try to give the new cat attention, my older cat will go and hit him afterwards, like a "back off, she's mine." It's gotten to the point where the new cat looks around anxiously to make sure the older cat isn't around before he even sits next to me. If he sees the older cat coming, he will jump away really quickly. The older cat is just so possessive and idk how to make the new cat feel more welcome and safe. :( Any advice?
