My roommate and I are both in graduate school. My schedule is a little more flexible than hers so I am at home more often. She is usually gone 50 - 60 hours a week.
Her dog gets left home alone usually 10 - 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Since I'm usually home before her, she will ask me to let her dog out to pee pretty much every day. I feel bad because the rest of the day the dog is pretty much locked in her room, so I usually take her on a walk and play with her too.
I find the whole thing really annoying because we only live a 15 min bus ride off campus and her schedule is flexible enough where she could come back and at least let her dog out. We live in an apartment complex so letting her dog out means I have to put on her harness and take her outside + walking takes up time. It also is really annoying for me because she is a dog sitter on Rover and she spends half an hour 5x a week doing the same thing I do with someone else's dog (and gets paid for it) but doesn't come back to take care of hers. Also the other day she texted me at 4pm asking me to take her dog out because she wasn't coming back until 6. I responded at 430 that I would but I forgot and when she came back, she was really upset with me and said she would never let her dog go without peeing that long (even though she does that all the time). During the weekend she plays a lot with the dog and takes good care of her; it's just during the week that I feel she neglects her dog.
I find the whole thing really frustrating. I've been scared to bring it up because she's otherwise a good roommate and a nice girl and I don't want to cause any problems. What do you all think?
