For starters i have 2 cats. Francis who is a big cat (also stupid) and ako who is new.
Francis weve been free feeding for a long time. I know its not recommended (especially when its hard to tell if its cause of his breed, his thick hair, or just overweight to why hes so big. I think its all three).
We did the free eating thing cause
- Hes dumb and if he hasnt gotten fed in awhile he eats too fast and throws it up.
- Well thats actually it. Oh and cause he just ate a tiny amount than walked away. Always did that.
Well ive been trying to do meal times (one to reinforce what ive read online about the doors and eating on opposite sides, but two cause to help him lose weight). The problem has been francis.
So the first meal time he ate a few bites and left. So i put away the food bowl.
Then the second time at night he ate very little despite not eating that much in the morning. Ako on the other hand, finished most, if not all of her tiny bowls (the bowls really are super small).
So i put the bowl away right? Well 25 minutes later hes ripping into the food bag to eat, so I put the food bowl out again, he eats for a second than walks away. He just likes to graze.
The other problem is if the food bowl isnt full or has a thin layee he wont touch it. Just keeps eyeing the darn thing. You can shake it and he will sometimes eat it. Sometimes I trick him and make him think i put some more in it and he will eat it then.
The problem is Ako and francis.
If she sees the food bowl she will go to it to eat. Unless she just finished hers. Than she ignores it.
But francis wants me to shake his food bowl later on (he kept staring at it like it was empty) and next thing i know, despite having just eaten an hour ago, Ako is eating his!
Am i not feeding her enough and shes still hungry? I think the general guide line is a cup to a cup and a half.
But i dont want them to be hungry you know? I want to make sure im feeding them enough.
Ugh too many feeding problems
