We're under quarantine after we lost a cat to fip. I don't understand why.

Let me start by saying, I live in a third world s**thole. True, we have few good vets and extraordinary surgeons, but most of them lack experience with certain diseases and viruses because most people simply don't take their pets to the vet. You know, dogs are guards and cats are mouse killers and if they die before they turn 1, it was their time to go. Don't get me started... Anyway, corona and fip are not even mentioned in our veterinary trade school and uni curriculum, the younger generations know about them from the internet, the older generations don't even speak english and know a bit from their limited experience. Basically, nobody knows anything.

We had 2 cats, male and female, we lost the male almost a month ago. He was constantly sick, it was this after that. In 6 months, he had been to the vet more times than I had been to the doctor in 30 years. In retrospect, he probably had the dry form when we got him but back then we didn't have a diagnosis and only treated the symptoms as they came. Long story, for 3 months we lived in a studio apartment before we could move to our new place and we couldn't separate them when he would get sick, but the female didn't get anything from him, not even the bacterial infections. We lost him almost a months ago and our vet put us under 45 days quarantine. I have several questions I can't find the answers to by googling and would appreciate your experiences. Another thing to note, we don't have tests for corona, I ordered some from abroad and still wait for their arrival.

  1. Why are we under quarantine? The mutation itself isn't viral and most cats have corona anyway. Our other cat probably has corona, so any new cat would be exposed to it.
  2. If he already had fip when we got him, could he have given corona to our other cat? It would be miracle if she didn't have it already cause we constantly fostered strays before we got him.
  3. Are we in quarantine because of the minuscule chance our other cat doesn't have corona? It's the only thing that makes sense, to eliminate the possibility of another cat getting corona from the hairs left around the house.
  4. Should I be worried about her yearly shot? She's due and I'm terrified of doing it cause vaccination can trigger the mutation.
  5. Can cats give corona to dogs? We couldn't wait to move to own place to be able to foster dogs and now I'm terrified of that too.

I'm not asking cause I want to replace my baby. He was one of a kind, I called him my wart. He had his paws around my neck 100% of the time I wasn't standing up. Nothing can replace that. Part of it is curiosity, part pure rage. Simply put, in my country very few people care about the strays. Not being able to foster while seeing yet another poisoning spree makes me feel debilitated.
