So we have 4 dogs altogether, however the problem is just with these 2.
Our mix was adopted from a shelter and they expected that his previous owner (who adopted and returned him) was abusive. This was never really a problem for us as we really emphasize being kind to our dogs, but he would occasionally get grouchy or snarl at a human here and there.
He and our GP got along well and were best buds for a long time. They still play together fairly often, however our mix is so mean to him lately and we really don’t know what to do.
Play fighting usually turns into our mix attacking our GP. After we take them out, they go into their kennel (it’s separated by a divider, they can’t touch each other and it’s spacious). When they are beside each other in the kennel our mix loses his mind and growls, barks, and snarls nonstop.
Our mix often growls when the GP is nearby and will sometimes just be mean to him at random.
We can’t think of why this would be happening, and we really don’t know what to do to get it to stop. We know that we can’t let him keep being mean to the GP, of course, but accomplishing that has proven nearly impossible.
So I’m posting in hopes that you fine people could give us some advice.
For the record: Blood has never been drawn and there has never been any actual physical damage, but it’s still super aggressive behavior. Our mix does NOT do this to our Golden or our teacup poodle.
I’d appreciate any advice you can offer!
