So earlier this past evening a stray cat that I see a lot (with a few other cats I might add) was sitting outside of my front door. I decided I had a little extra tuna I could get him so I went to go grab it and put it in a bowl. When I turned around there he was walking into the apartment. He seems extremely friendly like when I was walking around the house he was following me non stop and rubbing around my legs. I went out and grabbed one of those all in one disposable litterboxs and a couple cans of wet food for a couple nights and when I got back he was already taking a little snooze on top of my bed. I actually would love to keep him around as I currently live alone and other than going to and from classes and having friends over I don't really have any roommates animal or otherwise.
So I'm wondering what I should do from here. As I said before I got a all in one disposable litterbox (two actually) plus a scooper and a couple cans of wetfood. I checked for a microchip by rubbing between his shoulder blades but I didn't feel anything. I've seen him around a lot and I knew he or the other cats belonged to any of the neighbors. One thing I've already done was sent an email to the local humane society's neutering clinic to have him neutered even if I end up not being able to keep him (I live in a city where stray cats are basically up every other street and it's a very big problem to be honest). Also I'm going to have him get a rabies vaccine and just a general check up to make sure everything is on the up and up.
Overall he has shown some signs of wanting to go back out the door but it seems like he's now decided to hang around, I even tried to take a nap and when I woke up he was right next to my leg. I can't imagine him being a stray since birth, I'm assuming that he was once someones cat but just seeing all the cats everywhere I wouldn't be surprised if someone just kicked him to the curb. This would be the first cat I ever had so I'm just making sure I'm doing things properly.
