Looking for any advice I can get here. My "old dog" is 2 years old as is the new dog. The dog we just adopted came from a high kill shelter and seems to have been abused so he is very timid. Since he is so timid My girlfriend and I have been trying to get him to warm up to the new house. Honestly he is a very sweet dog and loves laying in his kennel, and getting some pets. But when we are near/petting the new dog, my old dog immediately gets jealous and starts growling and barking. This causes new dog to do the same. This hasnt led to an actual altercation yet since he's so timid and my old dog is a tough guy, so he barks and growls from behind me and runs away. I really dont know the best course of action here because it just leads to 20minutes of barking and growling. I'm just not sure what to do at this point, they'll go on walks together and be fine, we havent had the new dog long enough to get him playing with toys or anything. Just looking for a couple of things to try to smooth things over for these two.
