I adopted a 6 year old Pomeranian 3 years ago with my ex partner. We moved once, after we moved we separated (1 year later) but I stayed in our home. Eventually I moved into a new place (another year later) and met a new partner who moved in about 5 months ago (again, 1 year after I moved into the new place) with his 6 year old dog Penny. Coco (now 9 years old) and Penny are both pretty independent dogs that don't really play well with others. They are both not aggressive but more so don't really care about other dogs. When Penny moved in Coco got more vocal, barking a little when we come home and when she hears Penny barking (when people come to the door mostly). This morning, though, I got out of bed and went to use the restroom. I walked past Coco in her bed, while in the restroom she started randomly howling. My partner went and calmed her down but as soon as he walked away she started to make a really weird howl I've never heard before. I came out, started petting her and she immediately stopped but she was shaking. Immediately after she was her normal energetic self but that situation was really out of character for her. She was also a little needier after the event, walking past the bathroom numerous times while I did my makeup.
What is happening here? Could it be something medically wrong or is it her acting out? Does anyone else have experience with this? Before this she was the quietest dog in the world...
