I'm a college student, and I live with 3 roommates. Back at my parent's house I have 3 cats. I have a pretty girl named Venus, who I have had since I was in the 10th grade, and then I have the two black boys named Jiji and Jojo. I've been thinking about how my mother handles their situation, and I really feel like I need some advice on if she is handling it correctly or not. Venus does NOT get along with the other cats. we warmed her up to them slowly, and things were seeming to be ok, but suddenly one day, she could NOT stand the two of them. They are much younger and bigger than she is, and they seem to bully her around if she is nearby.
So to solve this problem, my mom puts Venus in the basement, and gives the black cats free reign over the house during the day. At night, my mom puts them in my brother's room (where he is also located) and opens the door from the basement, giving venus free reign of the house (and basement). She doesnt really seem unhappy.I heard cats dont like closed doors, but the basement is very big and whenever I go down there to visit her she is either sleeping in her little bed or she's up to something, and she claims she makes an effort to play with her every night.
The boys definitely dont like the closed door, but they always have each other and are VERY sweet and don't seem to be unhappy in the slightest. I am mostly worried about Venus. She doesn't seem particularly unhappy but I can imagine it gets lonely down there. Do you think we are handling this incorrectly?
P.S my plan is to get a place that allows cats about a year from now, and I will be taking the two black boys.
