I have 2 cats. One of them is a food hound, and will start meowing and scratching at the blinds (or anything that will make noise) about an hour or so before the alarm goes off. unfortunately, I haven't been able to stop this behavior for a year. We used to get up to feed them so we could go back to sleep, stopped doing that, but hasn't stopped the one cat acting this way.
-Due to the floor plan and where we can put the litter tray, we can't just lock them out of our bedroom over night.
-If I get up and lock the cat out of our bedroom, he scratches at the carpet under the door, and has caused serious damage.
-If I want to lock him in a different room after he has woken me up, I have to chase him through the house, which is not good for me getting back to sleep, nor good for my bad back.
-We have an automatic feeder for some dry food to buy us time, but doesn't stop this behavior.
-I have a spray bottle, and all it does is make him run off for a couple seconds, then comes back and starts up again.
-I don't want to punish both cats for the actions of just one of the cats.
-I have not gotten up early to feed the cat early for months and months, but he still does all of this.
Wife and I are losing sleep every day due to this cat. He is sweet for 22 hours a day, but every morning it is hell for us. And like I said, I can't just lock them out of our bedroom over night due to the floor plan.
Is this just our lives now? Any tips on how to make this cat actually behave and let us sleep at least until our alarm (which he does recognize)? Thank you all in advance.
