I have a friend who found a stray cat, we believe he’s 1 to 2 years old. He has all his shots and was neutered previous to being picked up by my friend, as he has the notch in his ear. The cat is also slightly underweight, weighing about 10 pounds
We decided to take the kitty in, but it’s been about 12 hours now and he will not eat or drink. We have tried dry food and wet food, placing it directly in front of him in a quiet place away from our other cat and dog. He has also not moved from the spot we put him, almost sitting in the exact same spot. This leads us to believe he may not be adjusting to this and it causes us concern, because we aren’t sure exactly when he last ate or drank since he was a stray.
With that said, I have a couple of questions
-
Do you think that we are being too hasty in thinking he will not adjust? My girlfriend and I have had several cats and she has specifically interacted with several strays, which is why we think he may not be adjusting or be capable of living in our house with our puppy and other cat.

If we aren’t being too hasty, what is our best plan for him? My friend is not able to take him in, he says he doesn’t the room. That leaves us with the option to rehome him, take him to a shelter, or put him back into the wild where he was found. I don’t know if putting him back in the wild is the best course of action (not sure if that is humane or not), but we are also not sure we will be able to rehome him quickly enough.
My girlfriend suggested posting this on here to get opinions. Anything will help, thank you.
