So I adopted my siamese mix Smoke a month ago, she was a former feral that lived in a foster home for about 3 weeks before I adopted her, just for some background.
She's still very skittish around me, if i'm in my room she'll walk around as long as im sitting still somewhere, but once i leave and come back in she dashes back under my chair. She's also very nervous getting on my lap, or stomach if i'm laying down. She hates being picked up otherwise i'd try setting her in my lap, but the moment i even put 2 hands around her waist she dashes.
I'm struggling to find ways to convey to her that it'll be ok without forcing her, and while I can live if she doesn't want to cuddle (even though it makes me sad), getting her comfortable with being picked up would be helpful for vet visits and such.
Any advice?
EDIT: while i'm at my desk she's fine being close to me, and will flop down on my mouse while i'm using it, it's just anywhere else and she runs
