So my brother and I are the only ones out of our family who have a good relationship and are on speaking terms, and I love him very much and don’t want to ruin anything. My brother lives with 2 roommates and he has 2 pit bulls. They stay in the cage most of the day while he’s at work. When they have an accident in the house, or do anything they’re not supposed to, he beats them very badly. Last night, I walked into his house with him, and one of his dogs had chewed up the blinds through her cage. He took her out and beat her, and it got worse as she tried to run away. He was punching her in the head, kicking her and then chasing her just to hit her again. He hit her with a glass bottle, bit her ear (for a long time), hit her with a drumstick, a chain, and picked her up, held her, and threw her by her collar. The other dog got mad and was growling from his cage, so he took him out and beat him even worse. He choked them against the wall and squeezed their jaws and punched them and shot blanks from a BB gun right in their ears. One of them peed on the floor because she was so scared. It went on so long I couldn’t bear it anymore, so I left. They cry out loud and it’s so heartbreaking. I know this has happened on many occasions, but this is the first time I’ve witnessed it this bad. It was absolutely brutal. He feeds them and they have water, most nights they sleep in his bed if they’re not in trouble. He doesn’t neglect them purposefully, but they are alone in the cage a lot since he works. And they don’t look like they’re abused or mistreated. They’re cared for in every other way except these brutal beatings. He says that this is just the way he trains his dogs and “establishes his dominance.” And he still “shows them love.” I want to report it and save the dogs, but I don’t want him to know it was me. He knows I got super upset last night so if something happened now I feel that he would know. I don’t know what to do! I’m really passive and hate confrontation, especially with the only family I really have. But I can’t stand just knowing these dogs are being abused and not doing anything about it.
