My Brittney Spaniel is 15 and a half years old. Up until about a month and a half ago, she was still active and happy, but then she became incontinent and started wetting her bed while she was sleeping. My vet put her on phenylpropanolamine and it helped a little bit, but she was still occasionally peeing overnight while she was sleeping. However, she started vomiting at least once a day. I told the vet and they reduced the prescription to half a pill instead of a full one.
2 and a half weeks ago, she completely lost interest in her dog food. About 3 days after that, she completely lost interest in her dog treats and bully sticks. I have been cooking for her at home, but after eating something a few times, she again loses interest. She will no longer eat anything with ground turkey, brown rice, chicken, salmon, scrambled eggs, or tuna.
This morning, I found her laying on the wood floor (instead of her bed) in a puddle of urine. I cleaned her off but she just seems miserable. She is having a really hard time walking and she basically ends up laying on the floor wherever she slides down. She no longer seems excited to see me, she never wants to play, she doesn't want to go for walks. She has been to the vet several times in the last few months and they have not seen any signs of organ failure or cancer or anything like that, but I feel like her quality of life is just terrible. She also has lost most of her hearing and her eyes are a little foggy, but she has dealt with that for about the last two years without too much inconvenience as far as I can tell.
My vet did give me the contact information for a mobile vet that can come to my home, and that is what I will do if we do decide to go the euthanasia route. I just don't know what to do and don't want to make the wrong decision.
