I've been worried because my cat has been spraying under the downstairs window for the past few nights. I was trying to figure out if he was stressed or bothered (the neighbours dogs have been barking constantly 😰), but he seemed really happy and healthy. Then one night, I went to use the downstairs bathroom and heard him come down and use the litter box. His litter box is right near the bathroom and suddenly it hit me, I never used to use the downstairs bathroom until recently. What if that's what's bothering him? I turned around and he was sitting right next to the window. I told him that I wouldn't use that bathroom anymore and apologized, saying I didn't know. Then he came right over instead of going to the window, as if to say yes. He's been spending all his time with me again, which had stopped when I began hanging out more downstairs and probably using that bathroom more often. It all makes perfect sense now because he wasn't really spraying, just dropping a few spots of pee, no tail twitch or anything. He was just trying to get my attention! :D
Tl:Dr thought my cat was spraying, figured out he was trying to tell me not use the bathroom close to his litter box
