I''m a first-time cat owner and I want to make sure everything I'm doing is correct

My girlfriend and I adopted a domestic shorthair yesterday. The humane society knew nothing about him because the shelter that he was transferred from found him as a stray.

We live in a two-bedroom apartment, not that big. For the first day/night, we put him in my office with a big cat tree that has a hidey hole, a "cuddle cup" (bed), litter box, food, water, and a few toys.

For the most part he was fine. Super cuddly and let us brush him, which he loved. He has been using the litter box, eating his food, and drinking water. He hung out on top of the cat tree and slept in the room for the night. This morning, we opened the door to the office to let him roam the apartment. For awhile, he just sniffed around, but has now been hiding under the living room couch for a few hours, just chilling.

Is there anything else I should be doing? I want to make sure he isn't bored, while also giving him space. I've tried playing with him with some toys, but he isn't too interested right now.

As a new cat owner, I overthink everything. He fully ate last night, but he only ate half of his food this morning. Is that just related to moving? Thank you for all the help and advice.
