I took my cat outside since she'd been antsy all week. about an hour in i saw a deer trail and followed it. she's been on many walks before and been fine so i assumed she'd follow me.
i turned around 30 seconds later and she was gone.
i spent the next hour trudging through the woods from where i'd let her off her leash to where she'd disappeared, i went back home, got my phone, then spent two more hours looking. i wasn't being quiet and had a bell for the latter half so if she was in earshot she would have heard me. i know she's not in about a half-mile radius of my appt. complex (backwoods, one main road, very small risk of getting hit)
when i came back the first time i thought i heard meowing near the parking lot and then again around the back of my building, but i didn't find her either time. if she came back in the first hour i was looking the door would have been shut.
everyone has pets, and she's terrified of both people and other animals so i don't see her coming home when people are around, apparently most lost cats return at night though. i'm worried she would have seen a shut door and given up.
I'm too sore to keep hiking but i'll be making walks around the parking lots every hour or so until the sun sets.
i set up food, water, a box with a pillowcase, an extra pillow case she peed on, and her litter boxes inside the door with the door cracked open wide enough for her to get in. i'm not worried about break-ins (safe neighborhood, nothing valuable in the living room, bedroom doors can be locked)
i put a sign on my door saying to call me if a cat is seen + her description.
is there anything else i can do in the meantime?
bonus question: do gps collars or implants work, and if so, which do you recommend?
