Question about canine euthanasia.

I have an in-law whose dog had a heart attack and she's waiting to put him down. She told me the vet said they spasm after the euthanasia injection, and he's surprised if anyone wants to be with the dog. He made it sound like no one chooses to remain with the dog during the injection(s.) I've never heard this! I know there's different methods, generally, and I don't know which system they use for euthanasia at this location (Houma, LA.)

See, I'm in love with this dog and want to be with him as he crosses the rainbow road. But I don't want memories of him posturing, or in this extreme discomfort I've never heard of. What are the odds I'll be able to spend time with him at the end? His potassium is high, I know that affects muscles- would that make this a more likely event?
