I have a vet appointment scheduled next month (it was the earliest I could get for my area) but I'm really worried now. I have a feeling I know what this is about and what it is, yet that does nothing to soothe mind.
When I first got her a few years ago, she started licking her front paws to the point there was no hair in places. My mom and I took her to our nearest vet, got her a steroid shot, and she was better. She had an allergic reaction to chicken by products, and that's how it manifested my vet told me.
I moved in with my then boyfriend last year, and he had two other cats and two dogs, but my kitty had always been a one pet household before that, and she started to lick her hind left leg to the point it was hairless in one specific area, but she stopped after a few months. I couldn't afford to take her to a vet then due to my having to support my ex, his mom, and all of the bills then. I moved back home six months later after ending that relationship.
When we moved home, she started to lick herself yet again. Then my new boyfriend started coming around, and she became very attached to him. Now whenever he isn't at my house, she chews on herself to the point of bleeding. Her hind leg looks like so inflamed.
I have tried many home and natural remedy, and have used what money I have to buy pet friendly antibiotic ointment and anti licking sprays and sprays that encourage healing. My mom is going to help me cover vet costs, but I'm so scared for her. I have changed her food and even litter to try and see if that helped (it did at first) but now nothing seems to help calm her at all.
I'm home all day, so I try my best to keep her occupied and distracted from licking as best I can, but even the best of my efforts don't seem to do anything. Does anyone have any advice for me until I can get her to her vet appointment next month?
