My dog is suddenly acting shy?

My dog is 10 months old, female, and unspayed (her appointment is set up for spaying) and she has always loved people and other dogs. She’s been to the dog park and doggy daycare plenty of times with no issues and has never shown any signs of aggression. Up until about 6 months old she would excitedly pee when meeting new people. I take her for walks downtown every day.

Suddenly she has become very shy. When male dogs get too close she cowers, tucks her tail and runs away. And when she meets a new person while she is on a leash, she is quite timid and takes a minute to warm up to the person. She still doesn’t show aggression, just backs away then proceeds very cautiously. Though when she is off leash she is very friendly with people.

There has been no change in her life, has never been abused or hit, and has had nothing that I would think could instigate fear in her. I’m just wondering why she has had a sudden change? Is this normal for puppies as they age? Or maybe it is because she is unspayed?
