My puppy barks non-stop when we leave him alone at home.

We don’t normally leave our puppy of three months alone unless we have to go somewhere he’s not allowed. He’s a five month old Shepherd Mix. If we do leave to do something, we make sure that he has everything he needs prior to leaving or have my sister watch him with her dog which isn’t always an option since she has a job.

We’ve been trying to train him to be alone by leaving the room for a few seconds and closing the door and coming back in and extending the time we leave him between each time.

He does constantly bark when we leave for usually not more than a couple hours maybe once a week. When we come back we can hear him barking behind the door.

We understand that it’s annoying and not something we’re ignoring but from what we can tell we can’t hear anyone in their apartments, it’s only when there are people in the hallways that you can hear through the door.

Our neighbor left a note by our door telling us about how his non stop barking while we are away and that we need to take him with us and that they’re going to call the police next time they pass our door and he’s barking because it’s animal abuse.

My question is how do we train him to be alone since there will be times that we go somewhere and he will not be able to go? Also if they call the police will the police do something about it?
