Not sure what to do

I'm currently sitting in a vet waiting for my 10 year old cat to get stitches. My 11 week old bichon poodle puppy (who I've had for 2 weeks) has attacked my cat. I'm on the verge of calling the breeder to see if they will help me rehome him while he is still young. Some other background. I am a young professional engineer where I work about 10 or more hours a day. I had every intent on scaling back my hours, but my boss is pressing me hard and fierce to keep with it. I also live in a rural area with no family near by, and no pet walking services near me. When I come home I try and train him and wear him out so we can sleep through the night. I just dont think it is fair to him to leave him for so long and then have little time to train him. Which is why my cat was attacked I believe. Can someone please give me some advice? Am I right in giving him back in hopes he can be with a family that has the time to train him properly and so my cat can live in peace again? Thank you
