So we have a cockatiel around 5 months old, and we've noticed her doing some odd things lately.
My girlfriend and I both work day shift ( 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. for me, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for her).
Over the last couple of weeks, we've noticed that our cockatiel will climb on the side of her cage and rapidly flap her wings while chirping as soon as I begin dressing for work. Now, we think it's because she knows we'll be leaving for around 12 hours. She only does this when I put on work clothes - I wear high-vis shirts, with black work pants. She does not do it when I put on jeans and any old t-shirt however, even on weekends at the same hours.
Now we think she knows that means we're leaving for a long stretch of time, but aren't 100% sure. She also seems to do it at random times as well, going from preening to flapping near-instantly. In those cases, usually we're laying in bed watching tv, and either whistling or talking to her as she chirps.
We always make sure to turn on television for her, where she can see the movement and hear the noise (she loves 'Family Guy'). She also has a heat lamp for light, and it keeps the basement, where we have her/sleep, just a bit warmer.
I'd appreciate any ideas or input as to why she behaves this way at times.
