PetFirst pet insurance increased monthly premiums from 39$ to 69$ without notice.

Hi,

We adopted our pup last March at a PetSmart event and we were given one month PetFirst insurance free as a part of the adoption packet. We decided to continue with PetFirst, and in all fairness we have had a decent experience with claims so far. This March a couple of weeks ago, the policy automatically changed to a different policy with similar coverage, and with no notice the monthly premium was nearly doubled. I just noticed the increase and called them to inquire about this, and cancel the policy. They said they adjuster changed or something which caused the increase, and that they can cancel only as of today and will pro-rate the charges for this month. While this is definitely in ethically murky territory, is this legal? (Could they have arbitrarily changed the monthly premium to (100$ or 1000$ or 10000$ instead?) Can I do anything about it?

(Honestly, it is not too much money so I am leaning towards cancelling the service and moving on, but if there is anything I can do that is not too much effort I'd like to know.)
