About a week ago we had a stray cat turn up in our doorstep meowing so loud. We went out with bits of turkey and she was very friendly, affectionate but starving. She had no collar We thought she was a kitten at first but we now think she’s a very skinny older cat. Her fur is thin, sparse, you can see bite marks from maybe mites or fleas, she has weeping sores in her face and under her chin. We didn’t initially bring her in the house for concern of mites or fleas, but she chilled in our garage and front yard everyday, so we started mixing in flea and working treatment into her wet food. Once we finished the treatments, we let her in the house and we fell madly in love with her. We tried not to get attached, we made an appointment at the vet to check if she has a microchip or an owner and have her checked over. She spent two days in the house, getting snuggled up to my partner and following him around the house. She was even affectionate to my dog.
Problem. Everyday, she usually sits by the door wanting to go out. We let her out and a few hours later she is back. Today, she was gone for quite a while. We finally did spot her, did the usual call to her with food we had been doing all week, when she saw us she took off. We didn’t chase her but saw her take off across a large oval. It’s now 12:30am and it’s 7.1°C outside and my partner has been sitting on the front step for hours hoping she would come back. It’s very likely she does have an owner, but she had no collar and she needed to have some sores and skin looked over by a vet. Think it’s likely we’ll ever see her again, have no idea what spooked her for her to take off.
tl;dr stray cat turned up. Fed it, gave it flea and working treatment. Cat has no collar, flea bite marks, sores on face. Have fallen in love with her affectionate personality. We let her out, when we spotted her again, she spooked and took off. Likely she will come back?
