UPDATE on missing dog. Advice on further care?

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/a2qygy/my_dog_went_missing_we_got_a_new_dog_i_dont_know/

After 7 long moths of waiting, it’s finally happened. Sophie was found.

When she first went missing I downloaded many lost pet apps, and subscribed my email to a few of them. I would always get emails asking “is this sophie?” Followed with a picture of a dog. Last night some guys posted about a found dog with a picture of our Sophie!

We contacted them, told them why had happened, and we were able to meet them. They said she was found with a blue collar, but she was wearing a pink collar when she was taken. We think she might’ve run away from whoever had her. The guys took her in to keep her from the cold.

When we were finally able to see her in person we realized it really was her. She was VERY fat, bloated, long nails, and excited to see us. She was perfect size (according to the vet) when we had her last check up, but now she is very large and heavy. She will money likely have to go on a diet.

We thanked the men, offered a reward, but they refused to take it. We are very grateful to them.

If you read the previous post, you’ll know that we got a new dog, Pepper, to help us cope with losing Sophie. She is still very naughty, hyper, and fast!

When she met Sophie she jumped around, got in her face, and made Sophie kind of scared. Sophie usually hides under the table when we have pepper out.

I fed her some of pepper’s food this afternoon (it’s all we have at the moment), and Sophie growled when I was petting her while she ate. She NEVER did that before. We don’t know that it means? Maybe she had to fight for her food from other dogs?

She’s slightly different but we still love her all the same.

Can someone recommend how to help Sophie and pepper get along? (Sophie is 9 and pepper is 7 months.) We don’t want to give one dog special treatment and not the other. How can we make Sophie more comfortable being home again?
