A year ago we started having an issue with one of our female cats spraying. Originally I thought it was because we had two cats in the neighbourhood that gained access to the cat flap in the kitchen. They kept coming in to steal our cats food and this is when the spraying started. We changed the cat flap to microchip only so it only lets in our cats. I haven’t seen the other cats in months so I assume they can’t get in and have given up. The issue is even though they can’t get into the house our female cat still sprays everywhere. There’s a specific corner she goes in and it smells awful even though I’ve cleaned the corner with enzymatic spray.
I’ve tried putting a litter box there, putting an obstruction in the way such as foil, and I’ve tried putting a bowl of food in the corner as a friend recommended that. If the corner is blocked she just does it somewhere else in the house. I don’t think we’ve gone a week without finding multiple spots that have been sprayed on. She also seems to hide under the bed a lot. She only comes out to see me, she won’t even really let my partner fuss her. It all seems to originate from the two cats that came in last year but I don’t know why the problem is still ongoing when they can’t get in. I honestly don’t know what to do.
