After only 6 months, we have made the decision to put our cat down.

Our cat Dex was diagnosed with Lymphoma this past Friday. We got him earlier this year from a shelter on Leap day. He is a sweet boy who loves head scratches, purrs like a motorboat, and loves to hunt (until he gets bored). Over the course of the past 6 months, he has been to the vet a handful of times, for what may or may not have been unrelated reasons.

Two weeks ago, he started vomiting multiple times on morning, so we brought him in. He was diagnosed with right-sided heart failure and had some enlarged organs, as well as a mass the size of two thirds his chest. After a week of waiting, we found out he has Lymphoma, which is typically treated through chemotherapy.

Today we found out treatment is $800 a week, with a projected lifespan of 7-24 months. Unfortunately, that price point is not feasible for us, so we gave him one treatment and our going to wait it out until it's time.

My heart is broken in so many pieces. I thought we would have our sweet boy for years, not months. I thought he would meet any future children we would have.

I'm hurt, probably dried out of tears. Any advice for coping with this?
