Cat bladder expression while working full time

TL;DR What are your experiences with working full time and having to express your cat's bladder?

My little boy Shadow is currently in the hospital recovering from either a stroke or slipped disk (we didn't do an MRI to make a final determination). He's slowing getting better and walking around. Surprised the vet by climbing 2 steps while he wasn't looking. But we are having issues with peeing. Both the vet and I are comfortable with releasing him to recover at home, which could involve having to express his bladder.

I have no problem with this. My only issue is that I work full time and am out of this house a minimum of 9.5 hours straight. I think that my supervisor would be flexible with me and let me go home at lunch. But I am making contingency plans anyway (I swear I'm related to Murphy of Murphy's Law). What are your experiences? How do you cope? He fought me when I tried to get him into his travel case to go to the vet, so there is no way I'm giving up on him. I just want to give him the best life possible.
