Looking for advice on a rescue dog

Hey everyone.

We are getting a rescue dog tomorrow. It is a beautiful 3 yo Australian cattle dog whose owners are getting divorced. I was told it is an outside dog, but we don't have a huge backyard and our family used to have inside dogs.

So, I am looking for advice on how to make the dog's transition into our family as smooth and fast as possible. We never had a rescue dog before, especially the one that is used to live outside.

I am planning to take the dog to obedience training, but I am not sure when I should consider doing it. Obviously, both the dog and our family need some time to bond before taking her to the training. Otherwise, I assume it will just increase the amount of stress the dog has to cope with due to the transition.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any advice on rescue dog adoption in general and on 'blue heeler' breed' particularly. We really want a family member we can take with us everywhere we go.
