My cat Henry is a very strange cat but I justify his weirdness with the fact he was living in the woods until I found him at like, idk 2 or 3 months old? He was real small. His weirdness includes- he doesn't knead, he barely purrs, only when i hug him gently or pick him up for a second to move him somewhere, and he for some reason acts like a dog in a lot of ways.
What I wanna know is, isn't purring a sign of happiness? And if so, why does he do it only when I'm giving him a very gentle, loose hug? (I know cats don't like feeling restrained so I try to be very careful)
When I pet him, he loves it. Love bites, head butting my hand, and standing on his tippy toes. So by those I know he likes being pet, but he doesn't purr. He also doesn't know that I know, but when he thinks I'm asleep he likes to lay against me and cuddle me and even hug me. He's done this since he was a baby.
When I hug him by putting my arms around him a little bit, not tight at all, not constricting or anything, he lets me hug him for a few seconds. Then, he tries to leave, which I let him. The thing is he only purrs when hes trying to leave.
I have never had or met a cat like him before. He only likes me in my family, he's scared of everyone else. But he DOES like my lizard and my dogs. They like him too. He follows me everywhere, and does everything I do. By this I mean: if I sleep, he sleeps too. if I'm eating, he goes and eats too. he follows me all over the house. he follows me to the bathroom, whether I'm doing business or I'm taking a shower. he sits on the back of my computer chair when I'm on the computer.
We found him on the side of the road with his two siblings. They ran away, he came up for pets. We tried to find them but had no luck. I gave him some of my kitten stuffed animals to try to keep him company, which he took to immediately.
I just wanna know why he's purring if he doesn't like it? Maybe he does like it but he doesn't like the closed in feeling?
