The title mostly says it all. I’m not worried about our dogs reaction to the cat as far as aggression. He used to hang out with a cat at our former nanny’s house. I’m really not worried about him and his new cat friend. It was a huge part of my decision to get a cat to give him a friend. I grew up with these pet combinations and am happy to share the experience with my kids.
We meet the cat tomorrow. Then my kids go to their Father’s for a couple of days. I’ll pick up the cat when the house is just me and the dog. I’m going to pick her up in a box and leave the box in the bathroom for her to come out on her own and know she can always go back there. Her litter will be in the kitchen close by. Her food will be up on the counter in the kitchen (still not sure if that’s best...not totally committed to this part of the plan). The dogs food is on the floor in the dining room; I’m worried he would eat the cats food if I put it on the floor because ALL of my past dogs seem to love cat food...
We live on the top two floors with multiple terrace and balcony spaces. The cats that lived here before used to go in and out. This is phase two of the integration plan, and always open to advice. The only sloped roofs end at terraces. No narrow ledges off our space, but if she climbs across other roofs this could be a concern.
I feel good about the plan. I’ve had animals my whole life, mixed from multiple backgrounds, etc. I just want to be sure that I’m not missing something.
Thank you!
