Physical therapy for cat with crushed vertebrae

The neighborhood cat, 3 year old fixed female, which I now have adopted was hit by a car 3 weeks ago. She was rushed to the vet. Vet found she had a crushed vertebrae and recommended cage rest. Sandy has been on cage rest for 3 weeks now. Her back legs can move, she sits up, tail twitches when I pet her back, has tried to walk, and can pee and poop on her own. My question is when to start physical therapy. She obviously is getting bored in the cage but from what I read it takes 4-6 weeks for bones to heal. She seems to really want to start walking but I do not want to prolong recovery. Any advice on physical therapy would be helpful to anyone with experience in this situation. My vet said I could start this week and gave pointers but I’m not entirely comfortable to start before the 4 week mark. On the other hand Sandy seems willing and ready to get out and start moving.

Thank you!
