So I just decided to moved out of my ‘boyfriends’ apartment. He had his cat there already and I moved in with my older cat I’ve had for 11 years and my then almost one year old cat. His cat bonded with my younger cat. I lived there for a little over two years and they played with each other all the time. My older cat isn’t as playful.
She was never ever very vocal at all and rarely every could get out a meow. Now that I’ve got my apartment on my own with my two cats, she mews all the time like maybe she’s looking for his cat. I feel bad for separating them but it was in my best interest to leave. He said he wants a ‘joint custody’ or have her go visit and stay at the old place to see his cat. I don’t know what to do because I think I should just cut my ties because I’m actually heartbroken over the whole situation as it is and it just doesn’t seem like it would be good for the cats either. I feel like it will cause more stress to take her to visit and then take them away from each other continuously. I’m at a loss and don’t know what to do. I hate hearing her cry like this like a part of her is missing just like what I’m going through myself. She started up crying tonight and then I started crying and we just laid down together and calmed each other.
What should I do? What are your opinions on the visitation part of it? What can I do to calm her? I have a cat tree and things for her to climb and have bought so many new things to make the space start feeling comfortable for her. I was in the hospital for days after the move so I think it made things even worse too...
